Gerry Goldstein Secures a Lifted Restraining Order for Client to Have Abortion
As reported by the San Antonio Light, civil rights attorney Gerry Goldstein convinced 166th District Judge Peter Michael Curry on March 27, 1986, to lift a restraining order that would have prevented his client from having an abortion.
Client Kim Kyla Hayes wanted to abort her child, against the wishes of her estranged husband, and Curry ruled she had the right to do so, according to the United States Constitution. Goldstein called the ruling a victory, saying she and other women should have the right to decide for themselves if they choose to have an abortion.
