TACDL President Cynthia Orr Said Support for Death Penalty Waning
Texas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers President Cynthia Orr said support for the death penalty is waning throughout the country, and one U.S. Supreme Court justice called it “an unfortunate part” of the judicial system.
In Voice for the Defense, a TACDL publication, Orr said a recent gallop poll showed the public is almost evenly divided on the death penalty. However, in Houston, which is the nation’s capital punishment capitol, 56 percent of people would prefer life without parole as a punishment.
